Minnets kalejdoskop
(Kaleidoscope of Memory)
In Therese's parents' house there was an old photography of them hugging, but for a long time she had believed that it was actually her aunt and father hugging in the photo.

This confusion reveals much about how memory and perception work together to construct our reality. Often, images from the past, especially those we have not directly witnessed, become malleable fragments within our minds, joined together with what we know, believe, or feel in the present.
The act of looking at old photographs always involves a form of personal reconstruction. We are confronted with what was, but also with what we believe was, what we were told, and what we project. This ambivalence between reality and perception is a fantastic area for artistic reflection: how much of what we remember is actually true? And how much is a subjective interpretation that, in a way, becomes its own truth?
This project was developed during my studies in visual narrative at the Academy of Art and Design at University of Gothenburg.
